How To Get a Fairly Decent Score in Every Extend Extra Extreme

Every Extend Extra Extreme (E4) is one of those weird Japanese rhythm based shoot ‘em up games with abstract graphics. It’s for the Xbox 360, and made by Q Entertainment, famous for games such as Rez (as United Game Artists, when they still were a part of Sega) and Lumines. I’ve been playing it a bunch lately, and here are my tips for getting a somewhat decent score in unlimited mode.

  • Try getting a Beat Bonus, which is a multiplier you get when you blow yourself up in time with the music. These go up to 5x.
  • Collect all the powerups you can. An obvious tip, really. Terminate the explosion if necessary, which brings us to…
  • Terminate your explosion all the fucking time. I usually terminate if I’m not on a Beat Bonus, or don’t have lots of time to spare.
  • Don’t be a hero. That’s what they say in the movies, and it’s true for E4 as well! What I mean is that you should blow yourself up before the shield timer runs out of time.
  • Do something else for a while. You will get really fucking bored if you play one stage for longer than thirty minutes, so take a break. I didn’t the last time, and now my brain is half dead.

That’s it. Before you know it, you’ll be #2665 on the leaderboard, like me!
