Alva Noto: Unitxt
Another beautiful cover (apparently) designed by Olaf Bender, one of Raster-Noton’s honchos. Have a look at Raster-Noton’s website for other cool stuff. Also, doesn’t hurt that the album itself is pretty damn good. Very different from Xerrox Vol.1, the previous Alva Noto album I’ve heard. In fact, the album reminds me more of Byetone’s “Death Of A Typographer” album. (Byetone is Olaf Bender, who—as I mentioned—is also a graphic designer) More beats and basslines, if you can call it that.
Alva Noto does go 100% glitch in the last track, “unitxt Code (data to Aiff)”, though. The title indeed describes what it sounds like, and is a fitting end to the album.
This is definitely one of the best albums I’ve heard this year, do check it out.
